| Planted as | Asparagus Seeds |
A young spear with its tip still tight. Edible raw, but it wants a pan or a pot. Also the source of its own seeds.
A farmland crop you cut rather than pull. Right-click a grown spear bed and the asparagus drops while the crown stays put, shorter for a while, then sends up more. There is nothing to replant, and in exchange one cutting yields less. Breaking the crown returns seeds only. First seeds come from wild asparagus in a savanna.
Obtaining
- Harvested from Asparagus Crown
Generation
- Wild patch: savanna
Ecological basis
Wild asparagus occupies sunny, well-drained open ground such as coastal sands and river margins. Savanna approximates that warm, dry exposure.
Usage
A crop you cut
This is not a crop you break to harvest. Let it grow, then cut it. The crown survives, comes back shorter and grows again, so one planting keeps yielding from the same spot. Right-clicking before it is grown does nothing.
Cutting it automatically
A dispenser loaded with shears, aimed at the crown, cuts only what has grown. Pair it with an observer watching the crown and it keeps harvesting without any replanting.
