A glossy, deep-purple fruit picked from the bush. Edible raw, though it is dull that way — it wants heat or a pickling crock. Also the source of its own seeds.
A farmland bush that stays. Once grown it never disappears — instead it cycles bud, unripe and ripe fruit. Right-click a ripe fruit and it drops while the bush stands on, ready to bear again. Breaking the bush returns seeds only. First seeds come from wild eggplant in a bamboo jungle.

Ecological basis
Eggplant was domesticated in humid tropical South and Southeast Asia, with semi-wild plants known from Myanmar to Yunnan. Bamboo jungle represents that warm forest edge.
Usage
A crop you pick
This is not a crop you break to harvest. Wait for the fruit to ripen, then pick it. The bush survives and bears again after a while, so there is nothing to replant — and in exchange one picking yields less than a broken crop.
Picking it automatically
A dispenser loaded with shears, aimed at the bush, picks only ripe fruit. Pair it with an observer watching the bush and it keeps harvesting while the plant stays put.
