Hagi Ware Platter

CategoryBlock

A platter for up to four okazu. A plain platter under a soft, milky glaze. Where the glaze runs thin, the pale pink body shows through.

Obtaining

Usage

Fired under the ash glaze

The platter body with the ash glaze beside it in the kiln gives you this ware.

Plating together

The platter does not turn dishes into something else. Set fried cod beside fried potatoes and that is your fish and chips.

In the real world

Hagi ware blends several local clays and is fired under glazes made with feldspar, wood ash or straw ash. Crazing and the absorbent body let its appearance change through use.

Differences in game

Satoyama omits the regional clays and changes brought by use; the shared body and one ash glaze always fire into the same milky ware.
