In the real world
Iron painting means grinding an iron-bearing earth fine, thinning it with water and drawing on the body with a brush before the glaze goes over it. How dark it fires depends on how much iron there is and how the kiln runs.
Differences in game
Satoyama does not separate the iron oxides, and treats raw iron simply as something crushable that colours. Nor do you choose the pattern that gets drawn.
